The Future of Railroad Magazines

How do you like to read magazines? On paper, or on your computer?

Railfan & Railroad would like to know the answer to that question. It has posted a digital version of a recent back issue for readers to peruse; after taking a look at it, people are asked to complete a short survey about digital versus print publicatons.

They want to know: Would you subscribe to a digital version? Print? Or both?

You can check it out for yourself at http://railfan.com/digital

  1. I see a great potential in this, I just hope there's a chance to "cherry pick" issues. For instance you could buy a subscription to 12 issues, and if some don't meet your fancy, you can "trade" that issue for a subsequent one. That way I could eliminate all these magazines flooding my shelves!

  2. That's not a bad idea. It wouild require editors to get away from thinking of a magazine as an "issue," a collection of articles that belong together. What if you paid a yearly subscription fee and you could access material whenever you wanted? Then editors would simply post stuff when it was ready, like we already do on blogs and websites.
